Overview:
The February 28, 2012 “Meet the Experts”
Composite Materials Forum will provide valuable technical
information on the use of Carbon Fibers to replace
conventional materials in product design. As an emerging
technology, composite materials offer unique performances
for structures that combine light weight with durability.
The keys to the successful utilization of composite
materials are predictability in performance and cost-effective
design of anisotropic, laminated structures.
Professor Steve Tsai will be speaking
on the process and product development of composite
materials that lead to improved design practice and
commercialization. He will provide design rules, show
product examples and comment on typical challenges
encountered in the design process.
Also speaking will be Dr. Kim Parnell,
who will discuss materials and properties, as well
as cure modeling and monitoring. He will also provide
information on delamination and cohesive elements
for finite element simulation.
Technical
Alliance Bridge (TAB) Meeting
Our
next TAB Alliance Meeting is on Tuesday February 21,
2012 at 6:45 PM. 
There
will be a “Know Your Member” presentation by Steve Brenner.
Steve has worked in the field of reliability testing
for a long time. He began as an environmental test engineer
with Grunman Aerospace Corporation and since then, his
test reliability work has spanned many products and
industries.
Our
featured speaker, Jim Stahl, will be giving us a glimpse
into the Behind-the-Scenes activities and Exhibit construction.
Jim has 22 years of experience as Exhibit Design Manager
with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, taking design concepts
and turning them into exhibits enjoyed by millions of
visitors.
